Thanks Meghan!
This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a dirty mahogany color almost brown with a two finger white foamy head that
fell off at a good pace. Light lace.
The aroma had some semi-sweet to roasty malts leaning towards some hazelnuts/pecans and then
developing into some molasses.
The flavor leaned into the sweetness of the malts fairly nice. Somewhat syrupy sort of an aftertaste
and finish though just a touch of earthy hops in there.
The feel was between light and medium on the body with a pretty good sessionable status about it.
Carbonation felt barely there. ABV felt as projected by the brewer.
Overall, this was pretty good and I hope I can try this on cask some day, I can only imagine.

Nose was molasses, hazelnuts and toffee. Apperance is a satisfying conker brown. The taste is exceptionally sweet, overpoweringly so. As is settles down you get sour apples and the nut. Oddly a few mouthfulls in, the sweetness has settled down. It’s a solid beer of a style which is out of fashion. I am not sure I have drunk enough brown beers to know if my luke warm feelings towards this beer, are indicative of the shortcomings of the beer or the style.

Bottle conditioned, in a brown 500ml bottle, best before May 2011, reviewed on 14th Feb 2011. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard: Dark brown, dirty ruby red coloured body, a full, deep tan coloured bubbley head sat on top. The smells given off were of semi-sweet malty molasses and hazel nuts. The taste was all maltiness, very little hop evidence, although there is a hint of hop bitterness at the end of the mouthfeel. The malts are not as sweet as the aroma would indicate, more subtle and discreet in fact. The alcohol, which is high for this style, is just below the surface, becoming more noticable as the mouth drys and the malt flavours decline. Full bodied describes this beer nicely. Easy to drink and one of the better Browns I’ve had for some time. This is a style rarely seen these days (Mann’s and Newcastle apart), glad to see this brewery isn’t afraid to fill the gap.

Chestnut colour. Flavour is lightly sweet and malty. It’s got a creamy, soft texture making it really easy to drink.
