Black, quite oily. Aroma of dark roasted malts and some coffee. Strong roasted, bitter flavour.

500ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a large, frothy head. Aroma is raisin, molasses and coffee. Taste has sweet molasses to start with a watery treacle finish. Hints of coffee. Nice to see something other than a 4% lager or nitro bitter from a macro.

Bottle conditioned dark red. Has a dry texture, low on flavours but has a mild fruitiness to its aroma.

22nd Feb 2012: Hand pulled pint, followed by three halves as I tried to leave ‘The White Hart’, Shifnal, Shropshire. Really enjoyed this beer: great looking brew, black body with a creamy textured head of white foam. The smells were strong and bold: roasted/toasted bread and malty molasses with some chocolate for good measure. The flavours were more burnt than roasted/toasted but the malts rule the taste: chocolate, liquorice and coffee where the suggestions I found. Rich and full bodied: a well crafted brew in my eyes.
