A winter treat brewed for all those who say we never brew any dark beers! Rich and dark but not heavy in alcohol, this will drink beautifully over the colder months.

7/8/2020. Cask at the Queen’s Head, Chelmsford. Pours very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white to beige head. Nice looking beer. Aroma is ashy, fruity, chocolate, berries, hint of liquorice. Moderate sweetness and light roasted bitterness with moderate sour. Moderate body, soft carbonation. Not sure about the sour.

On cask, at the Wharf. An almost clear brown beer with a small, beige head. Roasted aroma with some prunes and toast. Berry notes. Very soft on the palate, medium bodied and quite dry. The flavor is roasted and with some dried fruits. A nice bitterness too. Lasting roasted and bitter finish. A quite pleasant one, easy drinkable and tasteful. 140302

Cask handpull at the Old Fountain, Old Street. Tasty roasty toasty dark bitter, it’s ok, not in as good nick at the other 4 beers I had here. Bit of dryness on end. Some condition. A roasty fruity dark bitter, with dryness and fruit on finish.

Flat looking dark ale with a light coffee aroma, and a weak light coffee flavour. Overall a fairly plain strong mild.
