Matten Red Fox IPA

Red Fox IPA

Matten in Matzenheim, Grand Est, France 🇫🇷

  IPA - Red Regular
Score
6.54
ABV: 7.7% IBU: 50 Ticks: 36
Drawing its bitterness to such a height (50 IBU) that only sailors and deep miners can drink it. Or people with severe burns. 7.7 ° and just with grain malt, no extracts, no centrifuge! To be able to weather the storm. Very round, it has a copper blonde color. It's a triple fermentation, so don't hesitate to forget it in the cellar, in 6 months it will be even better!

Hazy amber and a bit of a flat pour. Sweet syrupy aroma. Flavour has a fruity syrupy taste. Bit of a jammy taste to it.

Slightly hazy amber with medium white head and big lacing. Sweet malts, caramel, light yeast and prunes, hint of spices. Medium sweet with dry bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, but more like an amber ale than IPA.

Bottle. Nice creamy head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich malt, caramel, little hops, fruits and little grass. Well brewed but way too few hops.

Light amber colour, slight white head. Spicy, herbal yeast aroma, light pepper, nuts, some caramel. Light sweet malty flavour, light bitter. Light bitter finish, caramel.
Not bad actually, a bit too sweet for me. Could use some aromatic hops.
(From 75cL bottle @ ZZT V. No idea who brought it, but thanks!)

75cl bottle @ ZZT V. Hazy orange color, no head. Smell and taste sweet, malts, slightly bitter, something else which I can’t quite figure out. Low to medium carbo and body.

@ZZT V. Hazy orange to copper colour with a minimal white head. Smells malts, some alcohol, some hops, slightly glue-ish. Tastes hoppy, slightly bitter and grapefruit, very sweet though. Very flat carbo-wise, medium body.

Bottle from La Cave à Bulles, Paris; lot 039
Cloudy light amber color; medium sized head. Weird aroma, vegetables, some paper, blood (iron). The mouthfeel is quite thick, some caramel flavor, combined with the strong veggies character, a quite high bitterness and evident alcohol presence; all this results in a bad experience; some residual sweetness, in this Maggi soup.
Probably an unstable beer, a bad bottle.

750ml bottle [Thanx Meike!]. Minimally cloudy reddish amber colour with average foamy stable lacing white head. Aroma has a fine but fading hop note, is otherwise dominated by caramel malt with a heavy resinous touch. From the hop are only vestiges left, taste comes up with mainly sweet notes, caramel malt, resin, also coniferes and a grassy or herbal touch, originating from the almost abscond hop.
