A strong Dark Ruby Mild echoing the Milds of the Victorian age. Dark malt and liquorice flavours dominate.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Black body with ruby highlights and a beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cherry, liquorice and earth. Flavour of sweet cherry cola and bitter blackcurrant. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. This is delicious. I wish Milds were more readily available.

500ml Bottle conditioned: BBD Apr 14, poured carefully into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 3rd Dec 13. Lovely dark body, deep ruby red really, but you don’t want me to repeat what’s on the labels do you? The head was a full beige covering of foam, lasted OK. Your best mates Home Brew sometimes smells like this: yeasty, slightly vinegary, yet interesting with reservations: you want to be friends at the end of the evening, so you just nod and say very little. The taste was also ’Home Brewish’ in it’s basic flavouring: Mild, yes, flavoursome, no. It reminded me of failed attempts at classic British styles I tried to brew 30 years ago. I don’t want to be unkind here, but this didn’t ’float my boat’ or ’fill my sails’ with love. I’ve got another five or six of their beers to try and a brewery T’Shirt to wear, so I hope the other brews improve somewhat.
