Gold with a frothy, white head. Aroma of mixed grains and buttery dough with a touch of yeasty dankness, all of it quite understated. Taste is faint bitter over a dough-like sweetness. Faint spice at the end but also faint metallic. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Underwhelming.

Had this as Hochdorfer Weihnachtsbier! Huge thanks to quack-duck for that one! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Starts mild, malty, a bit metallical. Shy spicy notes. Finish well balanced, but a bit boring malty. Okay.

Sampled from 0.5 l bottle as ’Hochdorfer Winterbier’, best before June 2017, courtesy of Koelschtrinker, thanks Roman! Clear, golden yellow with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, grainy and a bit spicy aroma of mainly grains, some straw, lots of Black Forest water and hints of honey. Sweetish, malty and slightly grassy-spicy taste of grains, straw and some iron, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly metallic and a little grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay, drinkable but far from great.

Bottle (kindly delivered by Quack-Duck!) Pale greenish-golden to golden, medium-sized lacy white head; moderate sweetish grainy-malty nose with a light hoppy back-bone; light to moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, almost medium bodied; sweetish hoppy and grainy finish. Not too impressive.....

Mies! Danke an den Doppelbock für das Bier.
