Boris is a hearty Imperial Stout that is aged in 10 year old Bourbon barrels. We’ve added a custom blend of cold brewed coffee to enhance the complexity. You’ll love the rich maltiness with hints of chocolate and dark fruit in this formidable brew

reviewed 6/18/2009 Received in the Black Booty Bif from jtrockchalk, thanks for the opportunity and the generosity. Pours a solid black color with a good sized tan head that stuck around for a bit, but receded to form a cap on top. Smells of coffee right away with some roasted grains, and chocolate in there as well, but the aroma is definitely heavy on the coffee. Taste starts off with roasted grains and chocolate followed by a melding towards coffee. The coffee dries out and some bourbon pokes through and finishes with some oak and alcohol with bitter dark fruit and coffee bitterness in the finish. There’s a lot going on here, and its all good, but I wonder if this needed to have the coffee in here at all. Medium level of carbonation, thick body, creamy, somewhat acidic mouthfeel. This is my first Alpine beer, hopefully it won’t be my last this is a great stout. I can’t find anything to fault this one, it all works together very well imho.

Bomber. Black body with tan head, rapidly diminishing. The aroma presents bourbon at first and tunrs malty with notes of roast, mild coffee, dark chocolate and molasses. Hint of resin and alcohol. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter with a pronounced sourness. Medium body, watery texture and fizzy carbonation. While the beer doesn’t overplay the bourbon, which is a plus, the lingering acidity is out of place. Too, the mouthfeel is too thin and fizzy for this big of a stout. Nice aroma, though.

Bottle thanks to ditmier for sharing this. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Aroma was coffee, vanilla, bourbon, molasses, and oak. Taste just as the aroma. I don’t think the dark fruit had a chance to show with all the custom blend coffee they added.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt and roasted malt as well as light notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of wood, coffee, roasted malt, and vanilla, as well as light notes of alcohol, leading to a dry and roasted finish. The alcohol bites the tongue. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Black color; creamy head. Musky aroma, roasted malt, vanilla; maybe some cardboard later. Medium body, it has some roasted malt flavor, liquorice; the mouthfeel is drier than the average Imperial Stout, there is a light sourness (from the roasted malt) and too much alcohol, getting rather unpleasant. Missing sweetness. Unbalanced. Not impressive.

From bottle, blind #5. Pours dark brown to black with a huge tan head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate and vanilla aroma. Light smoked, acidic, roasted and light chocolate to vanilla flavoured. Lasting vanilla and smoked base flavour into the far finish. Light acidic lasting note.

22 oz bottle shared by beastiefan2k. Pour is black brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma of big roast coffee and pine hops. Some oak woodiness. Nice, enough nose though a little overpowering on the coffee. Taste is stale office coffee with bright pine hops on top. Weird, and disjointed. Palate is thin-medium, with syrupy lingering coffee. Thanks for sharing this one Eugene.

Bottle shared with Marcus. Dark, dark brown color with a great tan head. Fantastic chocolate aroma. Full body with frothy/creamy carbonation. Flavors of coffee and chocolate. Arguably some bourbon. A little smokiness. Some dark fruits. Finishes barrelly, maybe oaky. Pretty darn good beer. Drinks well.
