Deep ruby red ale. Extreme malty/caramel flavor; sweet up front, finishing with hop bitterness and aroma. Very complex beer. We recommend at least four more months of age. But it is a delight to drink now.

Batch 1 - brewed late 2003, draught only.
Batch 2 - brewed 8/1/2004
Batch 3 - brewed 2/16/2005
Batch 4 - brewed end of Dec. 2005 (part of this batch was bourbon-aged)

2010 version, barrel aged. The beer starts with lots of burned sugars. Very sticky and sweetish with burning alcohol there. Lots of woody bourbon in the back. Bitter-sweet bourbon woody burning sticky sugary aftertaste. Nice.

Pours mahogany, slight haze and hints of beige foam. Aroma is warming, bit of warm bourbon booze, not too much of it, nice balance with malty-nutty body. Caramel candy, iris candy nose with a bit of hop kick. Taste has lots of caramel, nut, marmalade and cherries. There is some booze but that doesn’t bother. Which is great. It’s quite sweet but its well balanced with the hop bitterness and alcohol booze also contributes. Very balanced flavour profile, just amazing.

Shared 0.355l bottle @ Ross' flat in NYC . 2010 model. It's a really deep dark brown looking one this. Near what I'll call murky, still good looking and on the top there's a sidesticking off-white head - small lacings. Smells of dark licorice, sweet raisins and wood. Really good stuff. Just below average on the prickling carbonation level and it has a thick oily texture in the mouth. Much the same in the taste: Raisins and rum. I get wood, sweet caramel and it's also a little salty. Superb stuff. nothing more to say. 19.06.2015
