18,2% Plato.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Clear, ruby tinged, mahogany brown. Fine, dense, lasting, beige head. Nose has brown sugar. Some toffee apple. Earthy hop. Touch of toasted malts. A little bubblegum. Some nuts and raisins. Taste is nutty, sugary sweet. Some earthy hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Some headiness. Bittersweet finish. Very nice.

Bottle. Dark brown color wih creamy eggshell head. Aroma is malty, bready, some prunes. Taste is prunes, bready, sirupy. Warming finish. Creamy mouthfeel, but with a bit of a fizzy carbonation. A bit too sweet and unbalanced, but still quite nice.

Not so easy to rate by appearance as it was served in a ceramic mug. However, it looks dark brown and the head is pretty dense and persistent and leaves nice lacing. Average intensity and good definition in the aroma, where a delicate base of roasted malts (with dark bread and light hints of coffee) is followed by a lighter slightly soft cola-like feel and by a hint of ’dusty’. Taste notes more or less follow the aroma, with a quite pronounced roasted/dark malts character per style and a semi-dry finish with a hint of floral hops. Still soft enough to be an accurate example of the style. Medium or slightly above medium bodied, light to medium carbonation, slightly in the densely soft department but still very easy to drink. A maybe not remarkable but definitely well made example of the style.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown. Medium sized head. Aroma of dark fruits and some coffee and chocolate. Taste is fruity, malty, sweet. Brown sugar that almost makes me think of belgian ales. Aftertaste features happy hoppiness. A real good Doppelbock but to consider it world class I’m missing something in the departments of mouthfeel and complexity. First world problems.

0.5l bottle. Dark ruby body, thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, toast, orange zest and floral hops. Taste of caramel, toast, chocolate, orange zest, some berries and floral hops. One of the sweeter and less roasty doppelbocks. I like it a lot.
