A perfectly balanced ale, characterised by its fresh hoppy taste and a clean bitter finish. The Official Beer of England Rugby, Greene King IPA is now the fastest selling cask ale in the UK.

Abv reduced from 3.6% to 3.4% in September 2023 “to help the company combat rising costs while maintaining the same crisp flavor of the beer”.

Deep darker copper coloured bitter, practically no head. Has a dry bitterness about it, some mild IPA character.

0.5l can. This is a clear champagne-brown beer with a nice medium sized and heavy lacing off-white head. Some sweetness on the aroma, hints of peachy fruits and a little bit of bubblegum. Not extreme, but nice enough. Mild oily to watery mouthfeel, and it's soft to average carbonated. Not to extreme in flavor really. Really low on the bitterness, it's mild floral, some thin maltiness going on with a hint of something light burned. Ehm, this is quite a boring one - even for a English style IPA, but it does certainly not have any clear flaws. Drinkable. 03.08.2012

Catch up rating. On tap at the Bird in Hand, Mildenhall. Nice draft IPA, but hard to get used to the British styles served cold. Typical IPA notes, though not as hoppy as their American cousins.

April 2009: I am having a Pale Ale day and this is my first one (Purity Mad Goose, Brew Dog Punk IPA and a Brooklyn East India Pale Ale to follow). The 660ml brown bottle was out of date by two months on opening and was poured into two vase shaped glasses, one a pint, the other a half. Looked fine, clear and mid-amber in colour, the head was almost white and full, staying for most of the tasting. Hops dominated the aroma, not ’in your face’ nasty, just a good harty smell (First Gold and Challenger are used). The hops are also the main feature of the taste, again not over the top. The beer has a good balance and all the ingrediants blend together to produce an easy drinking ale with a typical English IPA feel to it. At 3.6% you don’t get a huge mouthfeel or heavy body, but you would never guess it had such a low alcohol content. I am not a big fan of Greene King (for many reasons), but credit where credit is due, this is a good beer and one I have often drunk, although normally in cask form.

Draught @ Olutravintola Kahdet Kasvot
Aroma has bready malt, toffee and goldings hops. Flavour has toffee, some hay and hints of caramel. Surprisingly much hops for the style. But still yet another toffee-filled British bitter.

Bottle @ the Bladnoch Inn. Pours amber with a decent head. The nose has grapes, apples and toffee. The taste is more apples and toffee. The palate is medium bodied, quite creamy in texture with a clean-ish finish. Overall, better than in cask, I think. Worth having another, so I did.

Light brown colour. Soft, smooth, easy drinking texture. A full flavoured beer with a nice floral hop aftertaste.
