33cl bottle. Poured a black beer with a creamy tan head that diminishes in a thin layer. Aroma has dark chocolate notes, coffee, moderate malty and toasty. Flavour is slightly sweet at the beginning, then hints os roasted malts are appreciable. The aftertaste is moderate malty and toasty with a moderate biterness. carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high.

Draft. Black, brown head. Aroma of coffee. Taste is very roasty coffee grounds. Not bad.

330ml bottle. Black with fluffy lasting beige head. Preponderant hop aroma, underlying "dark" aroma is mainly liquorice. Very dry, roasty, lasting taste with only hop bitterness remaining. Has vicinity to an Black IPA. Not completely satisfying.

Dark opaque brown color, good creamy brown head, lace. Coffee, sweetish licoricey aroma. Medium-bodied, soft palate. Toasted malty, "menthol hops", dark coffee licorice and chocolate in the flavor. Lingering bitterness. Feels less than 7 %. Classic British strong stout. Very balanced and smooth.

Bottle 330ml.Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, wood, sweet licorice. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, sweet licorice. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20111202]

Aroma - Roasted malts....sweet dark malts...dark fruits..some molasses...some spicy bit hedgerow hops...light smooth aroma
Taste - Roasted malts, light coffee, hint of plain chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits, spicy hops. Quite complex, well blended - no flavour is over-strong. More restrained flavour than usual for the style - makes it smooth and eloquent.
Palate - Medium to full body..soft carb...rich smooth dark malts in the middle with coffee and hop bitterness...smooth and silky. Finish as main flavour...smooth..clears well from the palate
Overall - This is subtle, so well-blended and refined. The roasted malt, coffee and hops are all their but there is no harshness or astringenty. Some reviewers may find this too restrained, lacking ’something’ but this really works for me - we don’t need kick-ass flavours all the time. The best beer from the Williams Brothers so far I’ve tried! Would be even better cask!

33cl bottle, BBE 03/2013. Poured almost black with a brown, lasting head. Coffee, chocolate and liquirice in aroma. Flavor has burnt malt, coffee and loads of liquirice. Medium to full bodied. Very dry, roasted finish. Great stout.

Bottled. Deep amber colour, small head. Aroma is berries, some roasted malts, liquorice and mild leathery notes. Flavour is liquorice, fruits, spices, some roast and mild alcohol. Aroma was a bit lame, but the flavour is quite pleasantly balanced.

Bottled at oh6gdx’s birthday bash at chriso’s. Dark brown, mid sized head. Intense coffee aroma. Sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Salty with loads of espresso and warming cocoa bitter finish.

Bottle, Sainsburys, Upton. Black pour with a decent tan head. The nose and flavour was roasted malt, dark choc and hop driven with some coffee notes. Good balance struck, and the hop factor was most welcome and rendered this very drinkable.A well above average stout.
