Bottle from local Aldi. Toffee and malts in the aroma. Pours a rich burgundy with a small cream head. In the mouthy it is somewhat watery, but also grainy at the same time. Malty sweetness up front with rye bitterness underneath plus traces of apple and plum. Sticky and sweetish in the finish. Nice enough (for the price certainly) but not as good as other Harpers beers (e.g. IPA, coffee stout)

500ml bottle: BB 30th Jun 2021. Drank at home on 13th Nov 2020. Clear and clean ruby red (hence the name?), off-white crown. Slightly malty with a mini 'Rye' bitterness below the sweetish front of the taste. Didn't get the toffee apple or chocolate flavours claimed on the label, but I did enjoy the beer.

500ml bottle. A dark ruby colour, small white head, thin retention. Aroma of caramel malts, some roasted notes. Taste is caramel malts, quite earthy, a mild but lasting bitterness. Body is light to moderate and quite a high carbonation. Its a decent if simple ruby beer.

500ml bottle from Aldi. Poured a clear medium reddish dark amber colour with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malt, red berry fruits, light toffee apple. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a dry yeasty, herbal, light fruity, light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Bottle from Aldi. Deep copper in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. A malty bitter, with some caramel, bready malts with a toasty edge, a hint of red fruit and gentle finish. Ok.

500ml battle into pint glass. From ALDI, Riverwood. Pours mahogany/red with foamy cream-coloured head. Light carbonation. Sweet malt nose with a whiff of drinking chocolate. Medium body, light texture. Easy drinking. Finish is smoky caramel with hints of raisins. Not bad, certainly more flavour than a lot of other bitters.

Bottle. Deep reddish amber with an off white head. Aroma of stewed fruit, scorched chocolate, apples, some cardboard. Some dried and stewed fruit, empty sweetness and cardboard where you'd hope for malt, mean weedy bitterness at the dryish finish. A facade.
