Twintig (= Twenty) is the bourbon barrel-aged version of the Bijna Twintig (= Almost Twenty), and was brewed for the 20 year anniversary of Proeflokaal Arendsnest in Amsterdam, to be launched during a grand party. However, the corona crisis forced us to cancel our plans. We decided to can this beautiful prize-winning beer to sell to our customers and thus help us pay the rent.

0.33 l can from 'Drinks & Gifts', best before July 2030. Black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty, minimally smoky and a little boozy aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, quite some bourbon and a touch of peat. Quite sweet, malty, rather roasty and minimally smoky taste of dark chocolate, hard roasted coffee, licorice, light peat and quite some bourbon, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, gently earthy, a bit boozy and a little peaty finish. Full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Didn't get my hands on the base beer, unfortunately, but the BA version is a real treat. Quite heavy, no adjunct bullshit (apart from sugar), quite viscous and that little extra from the peat. Nice!

Black with a tan head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee, fudge and rich brownies. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter. Full bodied with a moderate thick texture, alcohol warmth in the finish and soft carbonation. Pretty decent this one, congrats Peter and Arendsnest for 20 years of awesome beer in Amsterdam!
