From the heavens it came, emerging black as night. Our bourbon-barrel aged triple stout is silky smooth; subtle notes of smoke and leather alongside sweet black licorice and vanilla.

473 ml can. Pours black with a short dark tan head. Aromas of syrupy roasted malts, sweet licorice, warm oaky bourbon, and soy. Flavors of chocolate, kahlua, vanilla, light but alcoholic bourbon, and oily roasted malts. Hot finish. Quite nice.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Black colour. Tar, dark malts, roast, burning alcohol, bourbon? Maybe; getting excessive in the finish.
Not balanced by enough sweetness, too boozy and roasty, quite hard to drink.

Can found in Nanaimo. This pours a ruby brown black with a very dark beige foam on top. It smells of molasses and heavy cloying licorice, ripe sugary grape, all kind of overbearing but not as excessive as I'd might expect. The flavour is heavy coffee, very strong burnt beans and ooozing motor oil. Nice crispness, good smoothness. For sixteen percent this is exceptional - not hugely complex nor layered but still very drinkable and the alcohol is very well hidden. Heavy and definitely sugary, I'll be sipping this alongside a glass of water but nonetheless it's not bad at all for such a beastly beer.

Medium brown. No head. Fairly big, sweet bourbon, lots of alcohol, wood...some intense soy sauce stuff. That note reminds me of when we used to think that character (Samiclaus, SA T Bock) was the only thing you'd get with ultra strong beers. Kind of cool to see how that's not a thing.

473mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out heavy bourbon barrels, a hint of vanilla, and light roast. Flavour is extremely boozy, with lots of roast, gentle vanilla, and alcohol. Lots of roast, bourbon and intense booze. Rather messy, but it works really well. 16%... really? Doesn't seem like it. Really fun stuff.

Jet black brown with a small brown head. Sweet dark molasses and dark chocolate. Dark roast, burnt sugars, molasses and barrel notes. No heat at all.
