Dark brown. The aroma has is nutty and coffeeish. The taste is strongly coffeeish, smooth and balanced by ample sweet malts. A well-balanced example.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and coffee. The flavor is sweet with notes of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, and sweet malt, leading to a dry bitter finish. Thanks fiulijn for sharing.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue and a beige head. Dry hard roast coffee aroma - a little chili-like - with a beige head. Medium body, some hard roast but also quite a metallic touch. A little vanilla and ashes. Ends dry. A little too thin to support the roast. 080411

Dark mahogany color, the red hue is visible through the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, spent coffee; not too exciting. Dry mouthfeel, quite weak body, with strong flavor of roasted malt and bad coffee; ordinary bitterness. Nothing special.

Decent black body with a brighter beige head of rather respectable size. Aroma is sweet barley, very stout like, with hints of coffee that may or may not be the barley or perhaps the advertised "Salt Spring Coffee". Really, they can grow coffee over there in this wet climate? Oh, it’s Sumatran and then re-branded by the Salt Spring crowd, gotcha. The flavour is very heavy on the coffee, and again it’s hard to say if it’s the extra infused coffee or the barley. Either way it’s reasonably tasty, but inquiring minds wouldn’t mind knowing if the brewers were good enough at their porters that they did this with barley or a heapload of coffee. Given that the bottle wasn’t too cheap, it could go either way.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Purely espresso on the nose. Flavour is not as bold, with espresso still being really the only flavour, but watered down a bit. Not bad.

Deep brown, thin tan head. Great nose of brown sugar and coffee. Palate is watery espresso. Nose promises more than flavor delivers
