0.44 l can from 'Drinks & Gifts', best before February 2025. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently fruity and moderately yeasty-spicy aroma of prunes, raisins, caramel, light chocolate and a touch of marzipan. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, chocolate, raisins, prunes, some marzipan and a touch of licorice root, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, gently yeasty-spicy and a bit boozy finish. Medium to full body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice Quad, pretty straightforward and intense, not as sophisticated as the great Belgian role models though. But, it comes quite close.

Can. Brown color. Malt, roast, apple, caramel and a hint of licorice in the aroma and flavor. Sweet. Kruidkoek. Low on carbon. Warming alcohol. Drinkable, but a Rochefort 10 clone? In your dreams maybe...

Presented as a 'clone' of the legendary trappist ale Rochefort 10 - and apparently it took two of Europe's finest craft breweries to achieve such an ambitious goal... Anyway, thanks to Craftmember for sharing the can! Yellowish beige, thin and open, mousy head on a dark chocolate brown beer with misty, ruddy-bronze hue. Aroma of caramel, baked banana, raisins, coriander seed touch somewhere, toffee, clove, brown bread, prunes, hints of dark rum, chlorine, coffee grounds, tea, ruby port. Sweet onset, clear dark candi sugar mingled with plum-, date- and banana-like fruity aspects, medium carbonated with a full, even somewhat syrupy mouthfeel that nevertheless remains supple. Smooth-edged caramelly malt profile, brown-bready, with ongoing candi sugar sweetness and upcoming spicy phenols (nutmeg, clove) retronasally, as well as a mild herbal hop bitterish touch. All these finishing flavours are tied together by a strong, port-like alcohol effect, warming but even becoming quite boozy in the end. Not quite a copy of Rochefort 10 but I imagine it is that beer's yeast profile they wanted to apply here; in comparison, Rochefort 10 feels a bit more slender, better balanced, less sugary and less 'hot' with much better hidden alcohol. Nevertheless a very creditable attempt and a mighty fine quad in all respects, ticking all the classic boxes.

440ml can sophiesbeerstore.co.uk. Pours deep dark mahogany, beige head. Alluring dark sweet candy sugar nose. Taste presents a super smooth palate, wondrously dark sweet character with remarkable balance, not too rich but certainly rich enough. It definitely bears an uncanny resemblance to Rochefort 10, probably the best attempt in fact. An absolute joy to drink.
