A golden beer whose aroma is dominated by hops that give characteristic citrus notes. Hops and fruit on the palate are balanced by malt and a bitter base. Dry hoppy finish with soft fruit flavors. A nationally respected ale, winner of numerous awards, JHB is a blond baby packed with flavour & perfect for those long sessions as well as a quick pint at lunchtime.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a clear, yellow-gold with a foamy, white head. Crispy malts and hay on the nose. Medium sweet flavor, biscuity malts, some straw and hay, bitterness of dry lemon rind. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Crisp, dry and slightly sticky finish, rich biscuits, mild cereal, some earth and dirt, more rindy citrus, which lingers. Superb beer.

Pours orange with a small white head. Aroma has hints of citrus and hops. Taste is fruity and bitter, with hints of citrus. A bit light bodied. Dry finish. Easy to drink, quite basic golden ale.

Bottle from the Bitter End, Bromley. Cloudy light amber pour with a white head. Citrus and herbs in the nose. Slightly floral. Crisp citrus flavours with pineapple and mango. Sharp, fresh fruity finish. Tasty.

Warning! Early amateur rating! On tap at the Sun Inn, Kelvedon. Very distinctive beer. Pronounced orange and lemon tones. Sharp and thirst quenching. Could sink loads of these.

500ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a large head. Aroma is orangey hops, some grass too. Some grass to start. Nice strong bitter finish with some citrus. Good body for the low strength.

Cask at The Rake, London. A golden coloured pour with smallish white head. Floral, citrus aroma. Tastes quite light, hoppy, fruity, crisp. Easy drinking session beer from Oakham.

Medium white head. Hazy pale yellow body. Fruity citric spicy aroma with mealy floral notes. Dry-sweetish gingery cinnamon taste with mealy floral notes. Dry-sweetish spicy citric floral taste, extremely harmonic. Mid-to-light body. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Dry, faintly astringent, raspberry and resin aftertaste with wooden notes. Very, very nice. (0.25l cask, Doggett’s Coat and Badge, London.)

[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading] My first beer from this highly-regarded brewer pours gold with a moderate white head. Light citrussy aroma with floral hints and some straw. Very bitter on first taste, but soon reveals big citrus flavours - marmalade initially, huge juicy fruity bursts in the middle and bitter grapfruit in the lasting finish. An excellent beer that transcends a style I’m often not too fond of. I’ll seek out more beers by this brewer now.
