Bottle, courtesy of coldbrewky, many thanks. Dark amber color with small beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel, molasses, woody notes. Taste, sweet with honey, molasses, dark fruit hints, burned sugar, notes of vanilla. Sweet finish, no bitter hops. Strong brandy like finish with hints of wood. It reminds me more to barley wine, but OK. Little bit sweet for me, not for everyday drinking, but it’s drinkable.

22 oz bottle. Poured a ruby color with /orange color with virtually no head. Aroma is really sweet, teeming with alcohol. Flavor is oak barrel vanilla, sugary dried fruits, alcohol. Eh, was not exactly impressed with this one, it didn’t seem as complex as it should have been and was too hot (boozy) to really enjoy properly. Maybe with some more age.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty molasses and caramel aroma. Sweetish heavy malty molasses flavor with hoppy bitter hints. Has a sweetish malty molasses finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

On tap at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep red body, thin tight cream head. Nose of oak and peach, sweet. Sweet body with tannic, buttery oak and fermented light fruits. Somewhat harsh with borderline cloying sweetness.

Bomber from Charleston Beer Exchange. Pours dark ruddy copper with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet fruits. Med + body. It’s very fruity. Makes me think of grape. Then it goes on to ripe light stone fruit. There’s some slightly roasted caramel. There’s some woodiness. Heat is not an issue. Just slightly sweet; there’s an impression of bitter. It seems like amazingly fresh fruit. A few other things I can’t find words for are in the mix. Excellent.

Oaked version. Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark red-caramel color with a small beige head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was strong sweet pineapple, coconut, vanilla and apple. The flavor was very sweet pineapple, coconut, vanilla, grapefruit and pine with undertones of candied dark fruits. The finish was long and sweet with lingering pineapple, coconut and pine. Thick and full bodied. Amazing.

Had this back to back with the Series 2. Tasted pretty much identical. Pours clear reddish brown color with thin tan head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel,vanilla and oak. Sweet caramel and plum flavors with vanilla and a hint of oak. Alcohol is pretty well hidden for 11%. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation and a syrupy body.

Pression @ mellow mushroom, Tampa. Cuivre, mousse épaisse beige. Nez houblonné avec note de caramel, fruité et du bois, sucre candi? En bouche, le profile du caramel se fait bien ressentir ainsi que des fruits noirs donnant ce côté prune, cassis avec en arrière-plan un peu de bois/chêne. Reste douce au palais mettant encore l’accent sur la possibilité de sucre candi allant vers la douceur du miel. Palais est réchauffant pour un fini rappelant la pomme caramélisée.

A reddish burgundy barley wine with no head. In aroma,fruity esters with burned caramel notes, treacle, light alcohol. In mouth, a smooth sweet barley wine with loads of warming alcohol, candy sugar, oily and viscous, lacking some complexity. On tap at Datz, Jan. 8 2011.
