This So-Cal take on a traditional witbier honors Coronado’s main street, which is home to our brewpub and was once lined with orange trees. Bolstered by orange zest, coriander and orange blossom honey, it’s Belgium by way of Coronado. Expect a refreshing, light-bodied brew rife with citrus zing and a hint of earthy spice.

Tap @ bishops arms, gamla stan, Stockholm. Golden color, thick white head. Very spicy, musty aroma. Coriander clearly there, celery, maybe some hint of orange peel as well. Flavor has celery, coriander , wheat and notes of freshed squeezed oranges. Really spicy. Lovely. Medium bodied. Lasting finish.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Julio’s Liquors. This brew is spot on the commercial description. Aroma is honey, orange zest and wheat. The body is on the lighter side of medium with a sweet honey finish. The sweetness lingers for a bit. It displays a good amount of oranges and wheat. Nice and refreshing and really traveled well all the way across the country.

Draught at Churchkey. Clear light yellow. Aroma of oranges and sweaty feet. Taste is very acidic lemon, a bit unbalanced. No urge to try this one again.

Tap at Marciero. Nose of orange, coriander, wheat. Nice bready wheat flavor, good citrus flavor, not overdone on the spice. Tasty enough wit.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass; no bottle dating but was recently released in the state. Pours very hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange peel, lemon zest, pear, light banana, wheat, biscuit, honey, coriander, light clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of bready/honey malt, spice, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of orange peel, lemon zest, pear, light banana, wheat, biscuit, honey, coriander, light clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange peel, lemon zest, pear, light banana, wheat, biscuit, honey, coriander, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance and robustness of spice, yeast ester, and bready/honey malt sweetness; with decent complexity and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly slick/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good witbier. Good robustness and balance of yeast ester, spices, and bready/honey malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. A pleasant and enjoyable offering.
