Old Ale is a firm favourite during the autumn and winter months. A dark, warming brew. Burnt sugars and roasted malts compliment the premium Maris Otter barley, supplanting the light bitterness of aroma hops. With hints of dried fruit and dates, this rich ale has been likened to the oak: steadfast throughout the year, regardless of the season.

Cask at the Royal Oak. It pours darkest brown, with ruby highlights and a decent beige head. The nose is dark fruit, caramel and malt vinegar. The taste is caramel, toffee, treacle, smoke, dark fruit, tobacco and leather, with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well balanced and tasty.

Cask at the Lord Nelson, Brighton. Pours dark brown with a light, tan head. Aroma has some faint toast and caramelized dark fruits. Dark mlts, ripened fruits, mild doughy bread and light, herbal hops in the flavor. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Has a sweet finish with some tea-like bitterness and more dark fruits. Alright overall. (3.6)
Cask at the Cleveland Arms, London. Pours clear, ruby-brown with a creamy, off-white head. Lovely semi-dark fruit nose, some berries and grapes. Light to medium sweet flavor with smooth sugars, light brown sugar, faint leaves, lots of berries and semi-dark, ripening fruits. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Optimal condition. Moderately sweet finish with very light dryness, plenty of semi-dark fruits, light hints of chocolate and very, very faint leather. great stuff. I could drink this all day. (4.0)
