Almost opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly tan head. Smooth and fairly light palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft dark malts with touches of cream and chocolate play second fiddle to strident rum barrel. A touch of bitter wood. Rum soaked fruits. Tangy rum finish with building bitterness. Impressive how much rum ba character they got in a 7.3% beer.

19/1/2019. Bottle from The Ale House, Chelmsford shared at the second Kesgrave 50/50 bottle share. Pours very dark brown with a small off-white to beige head. Aroma of chocolate, malt, rum, vanilla and wood. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium body, slight watery texture, average to soft carbonation. Lovely aroma.

Bottle from Drink? Hebden Bridge. Cloudy black-brown with next to no head. Its rum influence is strong, but its strength is very evident too and is overbearing to the extent that 'stout' is a very loose term here.
