(3/15/08) Draught sample at Brouwerij de Molen in Bodegraven. 8.2% ABV. Very dark brown with a big stable light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and hints of smoke. Sweetish flavor with some nice non-dominating, subtle, smoky peat notes, roasted malt and some fruits. Medium to full-bodied. Very balanced and not at all as overpowering as I was worried it’s gonna be due to the use of whiskey malt– very good!

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 08. Bottled and drunk on the train on the way home. Black with very dark brown edges. Lasting dark beige head. Aroma of an impy stout which surprised me. Intense choc malt aroma, some stinging hop too. Little bit of rubber in mouth, but more dark bitter choc. Finish has moderate length mostly of bitter dark choc. But it’s a fairly light bitterness. Very good strong choccy stout. I would probably have it down as an impy stout. Stinging herby hop is really rather good.
