Backlog December 2008. Dark reddish brown body under a small beige head. Aroma has smoke, tar, malt and dry fruit. Taste is quite sweet and malty with syrup, bread, dry fruit and less smoked than expected from aroma, still really nice. Fine body and smooth, smoked aftertaste. Great stuff.

75 cl bottle. Deep dark brown color. Chocolate, anis, licorice and a hint of peat in the aroma. Full bodied, malty sweet flavor. Smoked like an Islay malt whisky. Chocolate and licorice. Lapsang souchong. Friendly, lightly smoked beer, but also tasty and complex.

New Beer Distributors, NYC 750ml: pours black with tan head. Aroma is lightly peaty, overbrewed coffee, and sugar. Taste is lightly smoked but mostly just sweet and sticky. Not bad. Pretty easy drinking.

Brown color. Light to moderate smoke character, which is always good, but when it comes to smoke, I like a lot. Dry, earthy malt profile, which I attribute to the peat. Good.

750 ml Bottle purchased at Winooski Beverage Warehouse back in March. Dark, deep brown nearly black in color. Aroma is lightly smoked, Belgian yeast and caramel. Kind of like a Dubbel with a hint of smoke. I like the aroma more than the flavor. The smoky peat, roasted chocolate and shoe leather. Finishes with a charcoal bitter finish. I stored this in my cellar properly. Not sure how long this sat on the shelf. However, the style itself really isn’t my “cup of tea”.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of light smoke, chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavour of chocolate, smoke, a bit of roasted malt - but pretty thin for an 8% stout. Leaves much to be desired, but decent.

Smoke, Charred beef, tobacco, wood and molasses nose, maybe even chocolate too. Dark brown, thin tan head. Tobacco, chocolate, raisins, and vanilla with light prune undertones. Cherries and wood stay on the palate. Medium body, carboantion is just right, alocohol well concealed. Sort of lacking in body and intensity and the smokiness didn’t seem to be a major factor. Balance and complexity are excellent, with superb character. I enjoyed this immensely. It’s even quaffable.
