Beast is a full-bodied dark porter. It’s dark mahogany-brown in colour, with a hint of crimson. Rich aromas of toffee, treacle, Mocha coffee, vinous fruit, and chocolate. There’s more complexity on the palate with fruitcake, a hint of rum, more Mocha coffee, herbal hoppiness, vinous fruit, and a bittersweet finish that’s smooth yet complex, rich but not cloying.

Hops: Goldings, Challenger and First Gold. Brewed with a mix of pale ale, chocolate and crystal malts.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep brown wtb orange slithers around the edge. Neat off white head. Nose - burnt toffee and honeycomb. Taste - toffee, cherry and marzipan. A wee touch of liquorice on the very end. Palate - medium bodied at least. Rich but lightly tangy texture. Overall - it grew on me a lot.

Nearly opaque very dark beer with a decent beige head. Light scent of fruity, toasted malt. Taste follows suit, with the balance nicely done between the sweetness of the fruit and nice, toasty malt. A bit of liquorice too. Not massively complex and suffers from a slightly watery aftertaste / feel but otherwise it's a fairly straightforward beer done pretty well.

Half-pint, cask ale, shared with Finn at Layton Rakes (JDW) in Blackpool. A ruby glint to a near black body. Beige head, upper part glass-lacing. Moderate smell of earthy malts, hints of dried fruits. Mid-sweet dark malty flavours, caramel and dried fruits. Smooth malt-driven end. Half way pleasing. (07.022019).

Bottle from a now unrecalled source. Pours mid brown with an average sized off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, molasses and nut. Moderate sweetness and medium plus bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Packs quite a punch.
