Bottle from Tesco. Reddish mahogany pour, thin tan head. Malty liquorice aroma. Smooth roasted malt taste, with a nice rounded bitter flavour. Very pleasant soft bitter palate. Serve warm to maximise the flavour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[500ml bottle, gift from Maureen & Dave - cheers!] Pours dark brown with a large beige head. Lightly roasted malt, chocolate & wholemeal bread throughout. Maybe a slight hint of liquorice, but not enough to put me off. A slight dryness and slight bitterness in the finish. It’s an OK, easy-to-drink beer, but definitely a bit too easy at times - both the flavour and body are a little on the thin side.

500ml bottle - a classic well rounded ale, nice and full bodied, with a good meaty taste.

Aug 2008 from BA: Finally got round to buying and reviewing a bottle of this beer. Brown 500ml bottle, 5 months beyond its Best by Date. Poured into my new La Chouffe tulip glass twice. Wonderful colour, Mahogany red with a tan head that sat for ages on top. A chocolate aroma with toffee esters hit your nose, lovely. Rich plum bread type taste (without butter on it). Almost creamy in the mouthfeel, very rich and heavy in its body. If I know of a better Porter I can’t think of one right now, this is good. Glad I got to have this in a bottle, just as good as the cask version.

Jan 2007 from BA: This beer is in Roger Protz’s, 300 Beers to try before you Die, book. Righty so (unlike some others I will not mention). I had this pint in a Wetherspoon’s pub, Birmingham, England (early Saturday night 13 Jan 2007). Dark Mahogany in colour with an off white head, this beer named in honour of the brewers dog, is a serious Porter in looks as well as in its taste. Intense malty, caramel, almost chocolate aroma, which carries on into the taste and mouthfeel. The cask version is 5.0%, the bottles I believe are 5.5%, I will try a bottle if I ever see one and drink the cask where ever I see it!
