Handpull cask at the New York Tavern, Rotherham. Dark brown, slightly translucent. Beige head dissipates fairly quickly, leaving even lacing all along the glass. Honey and brown sugar aroma, with some forest floor and watercress. Sweet and slightly herbal taste. Unbalanced at first but it seems to even itself out over the course of the sip, leaving a solid bitter aftertaste. Interesting and well worth trying if you get the chance.

On cask at Sheaf View, Sheffield - Rich brown body, with a thick soapy white head. Sweet dark fruit cake flavour, dark treacle or molasses. Robust oily mouth feel, the carbonation is minimal but there’s enough to ensure it’s not flat tasting. Rather subtle beer, lots of red wine analogies going on with this one. Best of the day, and time for bed.
