Wittekerke Wild combines the styles of Witbier and Sour Ale: in a new technique, the microflora of the oak foeders used for Petrus sour ales is harvested and then used in the first fermentation of Wittekerke Wit. The result is a unique balance of wit beer and sour styles. It pours a hazy straw color with a white head. Aromas of tart lemon and citrus with grainy malt, oak, and earth. Taste is similar – moderately tart with green apple, coriander, and some peppery yeast.

50 cl can. Part of a blind mixed 12 pack from Laurenti’s Shop-Rite Liquors in Mercerville, NJ. Pale gold color. Massively large thick white head. Floral hop nose. Notes of sweet lavender and yeast. First sip is tart citrus with lemony notes. Light bodied wheat malt character. The hint of oak is ever so slight. Wild yeast notes are evident. Interesting.

At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly head, cloudy and extremely pale orange color, aroma of malt vinegar, ketchup and umami, mellow fruity sourness, some tomato, light shrubiness. Different, suprising, nice and enjoyable.

Super hazy golden coloured body with a thin, single centimetre tall pure whtie head. Aroma of amazingly soured and tart funk with a lot of grasses, dry grain, some citrus, lemons, bananas, yeast and limes and ending with a touch of coriander seed and white pepper - quite intense and very nice. Light-bodied; Very soured and tart flavour at first with a little wheat, some coriander seed, grain and apple/pear flavour that shows some good dry yeast with a touch of spices and very easy-drinking wheat and tart flavours to end it very smoothly. Aftertaste shows some light banana and bubble gum flavours with a good deal of citrus, lemons and tart funky oak dryness with a good kick of hay and perfume towards the end but ends of very smooth wheat. Overall, a very nice and incredibly complex beer for the style (I view this more of a wit) and a great but surprisingly good option to have from a relatively straight forward brewery - great to sample and well worth trying to find if you can grab it, and if I found this in a bargin bin in Connecticut, you should be able to find this in Belgium or perhaps somewhere around the states! I sampled this 50 cL tall can purchased from GlenRo Spirit Shoppe in Monroe, Connecticut for US$1,00 (that's it!) on 10-March-2018 sampled in my hotel room here in Orlando, Florida on 06-May-2018.

From the time I saw this can at vintage, my mouth started watering. Looks like lighter vanilla pale with a little haze. First taste is so refreshing! Exceeds my expectations. No fruit or sugar just a very well made tart beer, I am diggin this. Man, I liked the original 'kerke, but this is fantastic! Yummy tart wild experience, I'd say it almost comes close to the civilized tartness of a rodey, mixed with a little bright pale cantillon. Yes, every swig is well done tart beer. I'm glad they gave me a pounder of this. Hope they never quit making this stuff. On the finish I think I may detect a little bit of a processed taste but now its fleeting. In the end all I can say is THIS BEER ROCKS!
