Here’s a mahogany-coloured, traditional dark beer. Complex aromas of liquorice, prunes and hop resin combine with deep, rich flavours of coffee and chocolate; it’s a fan favourite! Winner of a SIBA bronze medal.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Yay, an East Yorkshire rate! Deep ruby-black with a beige head and a light fizz - in very decent nick thanks. Coffee up front, with liquorice and blackcurrant coming through quite strongly. The roasted malt bitterness is perhaps a tad on the harsh side, but otherwise it's a decent stout with a drying finish.
