Õlle on selline jook, et iga uus kord kui klaasi või pudeli suule tõstad, siis leiad midagi uut, sõltuvalt tuhandest-miljonist pisiasjast, mis hetke olukorda mõjutavad. Seega piirdun iga õlle juures selle tekstiga.

33cl bottle: BB 5th July 2024. Drank at home after cutting the rear garden grass on 16th June 2023. Clean and clear light golden body, huge white foaming head. This is fine for a low alcohol Pilsener.

33cl bottle. A clear golden beer with a off-white head. Aroma of floral and spicy hops, some grainy malt. Taste of grainy pale malt, straw, mild floral hops, dry bitter finish.

Bottle at home. Orangy golden color, huge sized white head. Smell and taste malts, decent to medium bitterness, light grainy note, a hint of citruspeel. Okay body and carbonation.

10/VIII/20 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ Filip’s place, BB: 2/II/22 (2020-754)

Clear pale blond beer, big irregular white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very soapy, clothes soap, bit fruity, chemical notes, rather unpleasant, bit weird. MF: lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sourish, bit soapy, soft bitterness, floral, more soapy notes, bit oxidized. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, little fruity, soapy bitterness, sweet, apple juice, honey, meh. Not very good...

Developed in February of this year so shortly before the Covid-19 lockdown, this low-alcoholic and flavoured, gluten free lager is a project of Joeri Cools, the cab driver who launched the Libidus ('happy ending') beers several years ago, and Geert De Paepe, a car dealer from Ghent. Bottle from De Hopduvel in Ghent. Snow white, thick and frothy, large-bubbled but very stable, closed, bit irregularly edged head sustained by fierce, almost 'champenoise' sparkling rushing through an initially clear, pale straw blonde beer with faint khaki tinge, turning lightly misty with sediment. Aroma of old dry white bread, unripe hard green pear, indeed a whiff of raw walnut, old polyester fibre, rain falling on hot rocks, ferruginous water, dried paper glue, hint of grass, some burnt plastic faraway in the background but hardly any typical elderblossom scent - in fact, hardly anything 'blossomy' at all, even in spite of the fact that next to elderblossom, honey was apparently also used. Fairly neutral onset, hardly any fruitiness so in that sense indeed clearly lager-like, vague touch of hard unripe pear perhaps, but most of the sweetishness and fruitiness comes directly from the malts, which behave in a slender, very 'pale' and grainy way, a tad sweetish and a tad sourish; strong minerally effects thanks to sharp carbonation (though okay for this kind of beer). I can find a vague background trace of raw - perhaps even green - walnut somewhere but very thinly so, while elderblossom remains again as good as absent; metallic (ferruginous ), paper- and plastic-like notes in the end, a tad glueish as well, with nonetheless a pleasant, grassy and medium lasting hop bitterness gracing the finish. Soapy wheat, subtly present from the start, becomes more prominent in the end and lingers along with the hops. Minerally, thinnish and bland considering the extra ingredients - not my beer, but admittedly refreshing on a hot summer evening, when sufficiently cooled. I do ponder about the 'Pilsener' qualification, though; in the absence of a tradition of blossom- and nut-flavoured, wheat-containing, low alcoholic Pilseners, I would simply regard this as a generic pale lager with a few twists - which, to be honest, add little to the whole. I do not believe that this Coucou will ever become serious competition for the 13 Artisanale Pils also from Ghent - and apparently seen by the Coucou guys as the great competitor - but at the same time I have to admit that I was expecting (even) worse.

Bottle from LDW. Clear blond colour, white foam. Notes of honey, some floral notes, sweet malts, medium bitter finish. Not very bad for this low alcohol pilsener.
