Cask at Prince of Wales, Farnborough. A weak nutty burnt aroma. Dark cola brown. Sparse off-white head. Light bitter. Some sourness. Weak instant coffee and boiled vegetables. Light bodied. Pretty watery, a touch of softness. Long finish. There was nothing negative in terms of a taste that I didn’t enjoy. It was the lack of anything substantial. Really boring. Just nothing to it.

Cask at Reading Beer Festival. Didn’t like their mild that I’d had just before but a friend recommended this one so thought I’d give the brewery another chance. It’s mahogany-black. Chocolate, coffee and roasty malt. Sweetish. This is much better than the mild. Nice porter.

Cask at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. An impressive opaque black looking pour with a loose beige head, but holding it too the light reveals a magnificent copper colour with a cherry red glint - one of the best looking beers I’ve come across; the aroma has well roasted malts and a hint of coffee; the body seems a little thin, but is rich with well roasted malts and is treacly but not too sweet, with some milk chocolate thrown in as well; the finish is dry with lingering toast. Could do with a touch more weight, but otherwise a great porter.
