Some of the oak casks at Samuel Smith’s date back more than a century with the individual oak staves being replaced by the Old Brewery coopers over the years. Gradually the casks soak in more & more of the character of the ale fermented in stone Yorkshire squares. Yorkshire Stingo is aged for at least a year, matured in these well-used oak casks in the brewery’s underground cellars deriving fruit, raisin, treacle toffee, Christmas pudding and slight oaky flavours, before being further naturally conditioned in bottle.
Releases: 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016. Please note: Stingo has the year brewed on the back label. Due to barrel aging & bottle-conditioning, the release year is one year after the year brewed.

Historical tick. Have resisted doing it but want to see how they impact my stats. Bottle at the Chandos, by Trafalgar Square. Good stuff.

opalescent amber colour, medium sized creamy beige-ish-yellowish ecru head; aroma of raisins, dried apricot, canned apple and pear, some honeycomb toffee, orange zesty and biscuity-caramel notes; taste of malty sweetness with dried fruity and orange zest notes; good one - original score: 8-9-7-8-8-8.0; re-rated on 26 Apr 2025: ok, this batch was just horrible: some leather, soy sauce and disgusting rotten notes - I am seriously disappointed! :(
