Bottled. An unclear yellow beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of straw, fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, malt, fruits, and alcohol, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle. Blonde. Pear and a hint of citrus in the aroma. Malty yet dry flavor with citric, yeasty and pear notes. Short, slightly metallic aftertaste. Not bad.

Tripel from a hobby brewery in Geel commissioned through the Proef, bought at Prik & Tik in Zele today. Moussy, off-white, densely structured head leaving a steady rim and some minimal lacing as well as a ’veil’ over the whole surface of the beer, which has a warm ’old gold’ colour with peachy hue, lightly hazy at first. Aroma of peach, overripe pineapple, some banana, ripe pear, white bread dough, sweet apple cake, chamomille, honey, dry earth, damp straw, cooked potato, gooseberry and a very vague hint of H2S (rotting egg) but vague enough not to become all too offensive. Spritzy, estery onset of dried apricot, unripe gooseberry and green banana - in other words, subdued fruit sweetishness and sourishness, strongly tingling carbo, yeasty spicy notes everywhere till the end; bready malt phase in the middle, bit grainy, supple yet ’full’. Finishes malty with additions of floral, earthy hoppiness, yielding some herbal aromas retronasally along with the fruity esters and spicy phenols, palpable yeastiness further accentuating the bready character of this beer, and after swallowing, clearly warming, ’jenever’- or wodka-like alcohol which somehow manages to show up late enough not to ’subvert’ the rest of the flavor profile. The expected cliché Belgian tripel of course, as there are way too many around to this day, but by itself very acceptable and even enjoyable if you are into this style: not perfect, but not too flawed either, with sufficiently restrained sweetness and sufficiently pronounced bitterness, which is often not the case. Quite alright.

Clear medium golden colour, tall frothy white head, good retention, good but uneven lacing. Aroma sweet malts, banana, pear, spicy notes. Smooth mouthfeel, taste light heavy to medium sweet, light bitter, grainy, light toffee, fruity, candy sugar, light retronasal banana. Middle part mild sweetbitter leading to a light bittersweet finish, medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, friendly not so special tripel, nice.
