Brewing a traditional hefeweizen is serious business. A thorough process riddled with terms like triple decoction, ferulic acid rest, and incredibly exact mash and fermentation temperatures.

All of that just to get a perfect balance of banana and clove, with just the right amount of German hops.

Can’t mess with their means because the Reinheitsgebot police will get you...

That’s why we tried to get as much banana character as possible and a quaffable body.

But we can guarantee you, we were wearing lederhosen during each step of the process!

50cl can. A hazy yellow golden beer with a white head. Aroma of sweet wheat, banana and yeast. Taste of mid sweet banana, yeast, phenols. Easy but nothing special.

Can at THT August. Hazy yellow with white head. Coriander, wheat, banana, cloves, doughy. Medium sweet and light bitter. Medium bodied.

500ml can. Hazy golden, big white head. Aroma of cloves, banana, pear, coriander. Taste is slightly sweet, banana, pear, cloves, coriander, malty, nice yeast esters. Medium bodied.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max's place. Thanks Max. Pretty clear golden. Overripe fruity esters, cheap bubblegum, sweetish and a bit sourish, bitterish finish, a bit of alcohol, medium-bodied. Not great.

Last summer at Beer O'Clock, Bucharest. Shared with lovely Anja. Clear pale golden, small lasting off-white head. Light estery, banana, nicely yeasty and malty. Crisp, sweet, very light citrus. Refreshing, medium to high carbonation, light to medium body, abrupt finish. Nice aromas, maybe a bit too light.

BOTTLE 50 CL, batch 002. Cloudy golden, big creamy head. Big fruity and tart aroma - ripe pears and pine apple, weizen acidity, a little mealy, maybe just a tiny bit too hot. The taste is fruty, with a hint of pear lollipops, but also dry and tart enough, unlike the first batch. The finish lets you down a bit, otherwise a very good good and rich weizen. The mouthfeel is juicy and really quenching. 7-4-7-4-14=3,6.

12-MAY-2017. BOTTLE 50 CL, batch 001. Slightly cloudy, golden, humble head. The aroma has pears and bananas, a little hot. Phenolic notes ranging from cloves to nail polish remover. The taste follows, fruity and hot, pear drops. On the sweeter side overall, but there’s still a glimpse of wheat tartness. Full-bodied, a bit hard to drink, with low to moderate carbonation. Not bad, a bit unwieldy. 6-3-7-3-13=3,2
