Anchor Saison is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, we chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

Bottle. Wine warehouse. Pours deep gold with a small white head. Soapy citrus aroma with hints of banana and honeysuckle. Taste is very similar with the addition of school glue. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden with a big head. Lots of lacings. Aroma is citrusy, sweet, lemongrass, slight herby. Taste is sweet and citrusy, lemongrass, bitterness with yeasty notes, finishes sweet with alcohol and dryness. Medium body, medium carbo, sticky texture. As a saison, nah.

Clear medium to deep amber colour, good frothy off-white head, half-way lasting, fair lacing. Light fruity nose, peach, apricot, pale malts, ginger, cloves. Medium sweet and bitter, malty, fruity bits, spicy and herbal notes, average duration. Sweetbitter aftertaste with a spicy finish, bit dusty, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, fresh and tasty, atypical saison but a nice brew.

Bottle at home. Amber colored beer with a white head. Very sweet, light roasted caramel malts, caramel, sweet grain/wheat, cloves, hubbabubba, white pepper. Very sweet, light bitter, light spicy. Light dusty/peppery finish, rusty/rough bock-like texture and feel. As a saison it’s pure shit, as a strong bock/Belgian ale it’s quite decent, but I generally don’t like that area of styles. Genuinely disappointed! American wannabe Belgians.... Spicy bubblegum water... Not gonna finish this sugar bomb all by myself. This ones for my dead homies. --- Beer merged from original tick of Saison Spring Ale on 21 Nov 2017 at 16:50 - Score: 5. Original review text: 2.7

Pours a copper from a bottle, lemony-clove aroma, similar flavor with a sort of butter-cookie background, maybe a little gingersnap or something like that. I think I’m a little hungry for a snack right now. Good beer.

Bottle at home, 27/02/16. Golden orange with a well appointed off white covering. Nose is toffee popcorn, yeast esters, pear drop interlude, straw, clove. Taste comprises sharp citric peel, toffee apple, straw, Belgian yeast esters, lemon rind, chamomile tea, light bread dough/fruit cake, hint of vanilla. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Average to ok saison, a touch buttery and overly sweet.

Bottle - I should preface this by saying that Anchor makes excellent beer, but I didn’t hold out much hope for this and was still disappointed - it’s kind of husky and s spicy that it’s hard to drink - the ginger in particular is crazy assertive - and I bought a whole six pack - lame.
