Tsjeeses was brewed for the first time in 2004 but not under that name because we didn’t find a name yet. Different code names like "Dangerous Blonde”, “New Years Blond” were used in 2004 and 2005. While brewing the same beer in 2006, our team got so hit by the beer, at a certain point, somebody said: “Tsjeeses what a great beer”. This batch was bourbon barrel aged.

33cl 2016 bottle from Homebrewstuff. Mahogany pour with a few bubbles. Malty aroma, raisins, prunes. Taste is more of the pit fruit, sweet, malty notes, alcohol heat and barrel notes arrive at the finish.

330ml bottle, but I’ve had this for so long I’ve no idea where it came from. Poured a murky medium brown with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is malt, red berry fruits and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich but slightly light, fruity, earthy, mineral, dry oak, boozy alcohol palate. Medium bodied with lively initial carbonation which dissipated to virtually nothing very quickly. I kept this cellared for 7 years. It wasn’t worth it.

23 August 2021. 33cl bottle from a trade. As 'Tsjeeses Reserva No. 11', no vintage mentioned, probably vintage 2011. Best before: 11/2016. Clear amber; small, frothy, off-white head. Intense aroma of golden raisin, pineapple, ripe plum, oxidized apple, honey, bourbon, vanilla, wet tobacco, orange liqueur, vague spices (cinnamon). Taste has very sweet red apple, almost in a 'cooked' manner, next to plum & pineapple in a honey malt profile, bit sugary, caramelly, with spicy touches in the back, hints of vanilla & wood too. 'Old' floral hoppy finish, lingering candied yellow fruits, apple, spices and vanilla, topped off by warming but toned-down bourbon alcohol. Medium body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Odd old bottle that I'd kept for years, but here it is. Just as complex and satisfying as I remember it, a distinct beer still. Bumping up the overall score (compared to the non-vintage version) by 0.5.

*Rating overgezet 2020* Het is een oranjerood bier met een dun schuim. De smaak is zoet fruitig en houtachtig met tonen van bourbon.

2014 Bourbon. Near clear deep brown. Sweet malts and sour grapes, figs, dash of lambic. Lots of bourbon and vanilla. Not sure the sour was intended but it’s mild and not unpleasant, just unexpected. Been a while. Over medium body, rich sherry finish.

Vintage 2014: Muddy brownish color and a nice off-white head. Dried fruits, plum and nice cask flavors.
