We brewed a dark, decadent wheatwine-style ale with chocolate wheat malt to accentuate the richness imparted through barrel-aging. We then divided the beer into three components, laying each down in new American oak barrels with varying degrees of barrel toast and char. This release showcases the robust, charred and dark chocolate notes contributed from aging in alligator charred oak barrels. Taste it side-by-side with its light toast and medium toast counterparts to bring the barrel-aging journey full circle.

Bottle, 75cl corked. An almost clear dark brown beer with a small, dense, dark beige head. The aroma has a good dash of alcohol, but not pushing, with roasted malts, dark dried fruits, toffee, charred wood, dark chocolate, oak and some bread. Perhaps a bit boozy, but hell it's nice. Full body, smooth carbonation and not too much sweetness in the mouth. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, char, raisin and prune, some dark bread crust and alcohol. Lasting finish. A delicous one indeed. Very delicious. 231231

Bottle from Master of Malt. It pours hazy darkest brown to black with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, oily, unctuous, vanilla, roasted coconut, charred oak, toffee, fudge, date, prune, rich chocolate, gateaux, fruit cake and some rocky road. The taste is smooth, slick, toasty, roasted malt, bitter - sweet, plenty of dark and dried fruits, fruit cake, figgy, toasted sugar, vanilla, toasted coconut, chocolate, nutella on toast and a touch of alcohol with a slick, bitter - sweet finish. Fulsome body and fine, prickly carbonation. Rounded and moreish. Nice stuff.

Taste: Dark malt, wheat malt, fruity notes of dark fruit, dark dried fruit, vanilla and toffee notes, boozy hints, wood. Moderate to over moderate sweet and bitter. Hints of smoke, subtle notes of charcoal. Smooth mouthfeel. Sugary notes. Bit sirupy mouthfeel. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Very nice.
Dit is zo typisch Amerikaans. Waarom kunnen NL brouwers, maar ook UK of andere brouwers, dit niet?
