Tsjeeses was brewed for the first time in 2004 but not under that name because we didn’t find a name yet. Different code names like "Dangerous Blonde”, “New Years Blond” were used in 2004 and 2005. While brewing the same beer in 2006, our team got so hit by the beer, at a certain point, somebody said: “Tsjeeses what a great beer”. This batch was bourbon barrel aged.

Bottle. Beer Planet, Brussels. 2011. Bit of a gusher, but I was ready for it. Murky, deep copper colour. Beige foam stays the course. Nose has baked apple and sultana compote. Soft toffee. Raisins. Soft, sweet oak. Buttered toast. Some notes of vanilla bourbon. Taste is sweet and sticky, with a vinous, fruity dryness. Hint of bitterness. Medium body. Smooth and slick. Low carbonation. Lots of lip stickage. Stays sticky sweet on the finish but with a well balanced, vine fruit bitterness.

33cl Bottle from Vonk. 2014 version. Red-ish amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of sweet confit fruit, raisins, hint of oak, sweet malts, some oxidation, light tart fruity note. Flavour is sour, lots of wood and tannins, very astringent, malts, dead yeast, oxidized, very bitter woody underlying flavour, fruity sourness. Full bodied. Flavour is really off, harsh bitter, no balance or complexity, yeasty.

27-03-18 // shared with the local crew, thanks! 2007 vintage thanks to Koelschtrinker. Murky brown. Small head. Loads of raisins, toffee, candis sugar, minimal vanilla, minimal oxidation. Thinner body than usual. But it held up great with its time. Still great.

Original rating of 5/03/2018. No vintage. Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker. Shared with Anke. Pours hazy brown/dark amber with a lasting, small, frothy, off-white head. Intense and complex aroma of apple, banana, candied orange, caramel, licorice & honey, herbs & spices, orange liqueur & bourbon. It tastes medium fruity sweet and light to medium hoppy/spicy bitter; dry, herbal, hoppy finish & warming bourbon/liqueur alcohol. Full body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. How they can make a beer like this is beyond me. Splendid!

Bottle. Brownish coloured beer with a strong bubbly head. The aroma is very malty sweet, and the flavour is rich with a sugary maltiness and a bitter finish. Overall an average malty strong Belgian ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
