Cozy up fireside with this festive winter ale full of spice notes and a robust malt character of toffee and dusted cocoa.

Bottle - Malty with some alcohol, raisins and spice. Clear dark amber with a rich off white head that lingers. Malts, sweet dark fruits, bitterness from hops and caramel. There is a bit of kick at the end, but all in all nothing very special. I have high expectations from Deschutes and was a little underwhelmed.

Tap at Deschutes Brewery & Public House, Portland - 07/11/12. Menu notes that this beer was brewed in the Portland brewing facility. Hazy dark amber with a thin off white head that clears to the edge and forms a pond. Nose is dark fruits, spice, touch of wood, light cherry notes. Taste follows, spice, dark fruits, a little booze, malt, wood. Full bodied with soft carbonation leading to a fruity boozey finish.

First appearance of the season for me. I love the nice balance between the spicyness of the hops and the sweetness of the malt. My initial impression is that this yearβs batch is a notch up from last years. Could be my imagination but what the heck. This is gonna be a great winter warmer for me.
Best regards,
Bill

This ale poured a cloudy dark amber, quickly dissipating, tan coloured head. Scents include very ripe fruit, banana, caramel and a little spice. First sip was quite hoppy with flavours of citus hops, ripe fruit, light smoke and roasted malt. Finish is bitter with ripe fruit and grassy hops flavours lingering.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma is big caramel and earthy malts, maybe some toffee in there as well. Flavor is toffee, a big earthy malt with some dark fruit. I really donβt get the hoppy fruit some others have gotten. Still this is a very tasty winter warmer. This would be a great beer by the fire.

Bottle @ home. Reddish brown appearance with a big, carbonated, light brown head. Piney, organic, earthy hoppy, caramel, toffee, moderately rich malty aroma. Fairly rich, moderately syrupy, dark caramel, toffee malty, moderately piney, bitter hoppy flavor. For the most part, this is smooth and fairly tasty.

Bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver
Dark brown color; medium sized compact head. Mild aroma of roasted malt and roasted nuts. Good flavor of dark caramel with a touch of roasted malt; the final is a bit nutty, with refreshing hop, and drier mouthfeel. Quite good.
