Bottle, 1 year old. Complex aroma: Sweet malty, caramel, milk chocolate, fermented pears, vineous notes. Orange, low head, low carbonation. Crisp maltyness, not overly sweet really, honey, fermented fruit, flowery hop notes, has a light estery bite. Dry finish, fresh wooden aftertaste .

Smallish off-white coarse-laced head, subsides quickly. Body is a handsome, dark chestnut brown. At a distance the aroma is distinctly bready, but up close it becomes a mix of sweet, spicy caramel and alcohol, with stale raisins thrown in. Sweetness is a little sickly, perhaps. Broad, deep, intensely sweet taste of spicy, burnt caramel with a lovely aftertaste of charcoal malts with a faint bitterness. A taste of dry, roasted wood lingers. An excellent barley wine. I was a bit let down by the aroma, expecting more from Nils Oscar, but the taste makes up for it. (0.33l bottle.)

Cloudy copper with little head. Malty aroma with port notes and some flowers. Malt flavour, but dry with some licorice and some alcohol. Bitter finish.

First ratingBottle, several times during 2004 and 2005.This was the first Barley Wine I tried and I got hooked at once. Nice dark color, strong scent and taste, good bite from the warming alcohol. The colour is clear chestnut with a little grey, or perhaps just dark copper. Almost no head. The flavour also has noticeable caramel, and some dried fruit, it is quite dusty and finishes with a hint of yeast. The alcohol is distinct, but never unpleasant, it tickles the back of my mouth. Very flavourful, yet never aggressive. The beer has a good body and the carbonation is quite soft and pleasant. 8 4 9 5 18

Bottled. A bit hazy golden colour with mediumsized white foamy head. Malt, hops and alcohol in aroma, which also has some honeyish notes. Malt, honey and alcohol in flavour. A bit sticky mouthfeel afterwards. Kind of sweetish aftertaste with hints of bread.

Copper brown, small off-white head. Malty, alcoholic, "barley wine"-nose. Medium-bodied, sweet and portwineous. Easy to drink, quite light mouthfeel for this high ABV.

(2001 vintage) Orange-ochre, clear beer; slim yellowish ring for a head. Grapes, raisins start in the nose, brandy-like, vanilla, young wood. Very vinous taste, like fortified wine, aged in young wood. Retronasal flavour of juniper berry. Definitely brandy-like. Well bodied, but lessened by the high alcohol content. Slick, oily feeling, again liqueur-like. Smooth - in the good way. Aftertaste almondy, slightly bitter. This is really the closest try to emulate brandy by a beer. Big thanks to J & Mr. H. who even thought of bringing me an aged sample.

Amber color with small frothy head. Malty beer, moderate sweetness, soft, with low bitterness, and sweet nuts. Not oxidized. Easy but nice.

Beautiful amber color. The aroma shows, initially, some sweet wood, then malt. The flavor is quite sweet, even without having a thick body; there is a pleasant mix of malt and caramel, and very light liquorice, but that’s pretty much all; soft Barley Wine, less malty than a good English one, and obviously much less hopped than an American one. The alcohol gives a light warming feeling only at the end. At least, it aged quite well.

Beautiful dark amber color. Sweet aroma, mature, a bit fruity. Very good body, malty, sweet, honey, with some caramel, low bitterness. Good but not enough bitter.

Hazy amber color; the head is not persistent. Strong aroma: malt, caramel, light phenol, cookies. Rich taste, malty, caramel; well balanced, mature. Finish with some liquorice. Pleasant one, but misses a bite. Thanks, Per!

An amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of alcohol and oranges. The flavor is nice, it is sweet, fruity, and slightly acidic with notes of oranges. The palate is wonderful
