Imperial Pumpkin Stout
Important: let this beer warm to at least 50° before enjoying. This beer is black with some ruby highlights. The nose is full of pumpkin pie spices and some alcohol. There are notes of nutmeg, caraway and vanilla. The taste starts with chocolate malt with a hint of spice and rolls into a warm spicy alcohol taste which has the effect of creating the balance that usually comes from the hop bitter. There is some hop bitter on the finish, but not much. Overall, this beer finishes relatively dry for such a big beer. As it warms, the spices move forward in the taste and the chocolate moves to the finish. The pumpkin provides a pleasant undertone and a nice mouthfeel. The spices will probably fade some over time; they mellowed considerably while still in the fermenter.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of MaltOMeal/daknole. Pours black with a tint of red and a beige head. Very spicy nose, lots of cinnamon. Solid body, dark, sweet fruits and loads of x-mas spices - a bit much really. Warming alcohol finish. 210810

Bottle thanks to AttitudeBrew. Wow, what a weird pumpkin porter! This is the first stout or porter I’ve had that lost most of its points from appearance. Pours black. All is good there. No head, just a thick blob of pumpkin sludge that sits on top of the glass in the middle of the beer. Really odd. Nose is phenomenal buttered pumpkin pie and cinnamon. Taste is exactly the same as that. Very tasty.

Tampa Wkly Gathering @BT Thanks Gary?-12oz bottle-pours a light tan head and mahogany color. Aroma is medium/dark malt-chocolate/hazelnut, spice hops. Taste is medium/dark malt-chocolate/hazelnut, biting spice hops. Cellared a while it will probably be spot on, but not yet.

12oz bottle pours a slightly watery, opaque black with zero head. Aroma is all pumpkin pie, all spice, sweet brown sugar, some fusel alcohol lurking. Flavor is sweet, light chocolate, just straight pumpkin pie. Too sweet, too spiced. A total train wreck.

12 oz bottle from Kaggie! Thanks Kevin! Nose of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and light pumpkin. Black with rusty edges and a nice medium cinnamon tan head. Flavor is pumpkin pie with a light amount of chocolate. Pretty nice pumkin ale; different than most!

bottle, pours thin black with a thin dark tan head. Aroma is full of pumpkin and chocolate notes. Rich smoked peat and rye notes with some chocolate undertones. The pumpkin is light and never in the forefront of the flavors going on. Finishes with some alcohol and a peppery spicing. Nice and interesting.

Big thanks to ericandersnavy for giving me this at our The Covey tasting. 12oz bottle pours very dark with mahogany edges and very brief dark tan head. The aroma is full up robust Christmas spices and rich holiday spiced pastries. I get a snoot full of cinnamon moving toward all spice, pumpernickel, ginger snap cookies and bright deep red cherry hard candy. The taste is just as robust as the nose with a barrel full of cinnamon and all spice sliding into ginger bread man cookies and pumpernickel. There’s a modest slick undercurrent of malt to molasses like sweetness. I’d love to sample this with a few years on it. It is a tad too bright today. Thanks Eric.

Bottle (gift from blutt59). Strong nutmeg/allspice and chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown/black with small head. Creamy chocolate malt, nutmeg, and vanilla flavor - mild alcohol burn finish. Nicely blended with no flavor dominating. Very nice.

Bottle from TGB, ericandersnavy. Pours opaque black with a two-finger tan head. Aroma of dark malt and pumpkin pie spice. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is dark toast malt, pie spice, and arguably squash. Heavy flavor finish. It’s a good beer. Really. Complex. Really.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a small paperthin creamy tan head that leaves decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a strong cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin and alcohol. Let it sit for about a half hour before trying. Medium mouthfeel with a light roast malt and similiar to the aroma with a lot of spice and alcohol present with chocolate and cinnamon in the finish. A very complex and great beer from Saint Arnold.
