Bottle from Against The Grain. Hazy brown body with a beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of strawberry syrup, oak and caramel. Flavour of plum, strawberry and a subtle hint of bourbon. Medium body with a chewy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A sweet and well rounded imperial red ale (or barley wine?) Loved this.

Bottle at Mathews tasting. Pours dark refusal brown with large white head. Aroma is oak, bourbon, whiskey, Vegemite and rye. Taste is medium to very sweet and medium bitter. Body is creamy with soft carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with notes of oak, yeast, mint and barley. Great barley wine with a slight twist towards stout

Cromarty's strong rye ale Double Rocker aged on bourbon and rye whisky barrels, a combination I haven't encountered before, thanks Loik for sharing. Off-white, irregular, mousy, opening head over a hazy, ruddy bronze beer with deep reddish-burgundy hue. Aroma of honey liqueur, melting candi sugar, sweet bourbon, hot chocolate sauce, toffee, light gravy, wet wood, candied fig, plum jam, oaky vanilla. Sweet onset in a refined, candied way, candied cherry, plum compote, blackberry jam, soft carb, full and vinous mouthfeel, oily and a tad resinous; thick toffeeish and pecan-nutty malt sweet body with dryish tannic wood effect releasing a lot of retronasal 'oaky vanilla', soaked in sweet bourbon and rye, heating, with a lot of residual sweetness refraining from stickiness due to the barrel treatment. Absolutely unexpected masterpiece, a desserty, rich, sweet barleywine of sorts, a very pleasant first meeting with this brewery for me.

Bottle shared in Meldrum. It pours hazy deep red - brown with a medium foamy white head. The aroma is sweet, oily, fresh pine, resin, varnish, big vanilla, oak, bourbon, toffee, red fruits, candy cane, fruit cake and leather. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, chewy, sticky, varnish, oak, leather, bourbon, rye whiskey, spice, vanilla, perfumed, fruit cake, warming alcohol and clove rock with a drying finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Rich and punchy stuff. A late-night sippin ale. Good depth of flavour.

Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - deep amber, lovely red chinks. Brown with off-white head. Nose - wood, raisins, candied orange, toffee/caramel. General feeling of booze. Taste - big rum and raisin thing going on. Dried fruit and wood turning into boozy finish. Palate - rich and full bodied. Sweet but slightly tapered middle and finish. Overall - a decadent after dinner (or instead of dinner) drink.
