Pours a black colour with a thick brownish head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, grapefruit, toffee, spices and hops. Flavour is black liquorice, grapefruit, with a nice hoppy bitter aftertaste. Excellent brew from dependable ’t IJ, get it while it lasts.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Roast, licorice, grass and grapefruit in the aroma. Firm roast and hopbitter flavor with licorice, citrus, white pepper and grassy notes. Flavors come and go and do not Always get together well. But this is a nice beer.

0.33 l bottle at ’Café Gollem’ (Raamsteeg). Clear, very dark brown to black with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, tan to brown head. Sweetish, fruity, slightly roasty aroma of mango, orange, blackberry, dark chocolate and coffee. Sweetish-malty, fruity, slightly roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, mango, orange, blackberry and caramel, followed by a short, slightly bitter, roasty finish. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A bit sweet but very nice!

Bottle split at the Black (IPA) Friday tasting, thanks to Sir Kenwold, 09/05/14. Dark mahogany brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is light roast, smoke, bitter tropicana, earthy cocoa pangs. Taste comprises roasty tones, bitter grapefruit, cocoa powder, pine bite. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light hop bitterness in the close. So so CDA, limited hop presence, pineometer non to high, miss!

Bottled from biernavigatie, BB 12/2014, large sample, served in a shaker. Slight hazy dark redbrown color with a huge frothy light brown head, leaving some unstable lacing. Aroma of some roasted malts, some caramel, fruity hop, pine, some grapefruit, slight candy, dark bread. Quite bitter in taste, piney, slight licorice and roast. Quite some maltiness in this black IPA. Slight alcohol in the finish, bit harsh. Feels a bit unbalanced. Quite high on carbonation, thin body. Good thing is, the beers from t IJ are much cleaner than they used to be, so I should actually rerate a lot of their beers.
