Fear no Pear is een subtiele bijna droge perencider verkregen door wilde vergisting. Het beste van Nederlandse perenrassen zoals Conference en Triumphe de Vienne, in een blend met Engelse ciderperenrassen zoals Helens Early.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 13 Aug 2025) Pale yellow colour with brief, white head. Fruity nose with pears, yeast, grass, citrus and a touch of glue. Fruity, tart taste with notes of pears, grass, citrus, hay, yeast and a generous acidity in a dry finish. Medium body, dry. Refreshing and tasty, but a bit yeasty. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle shared at home. Hazy pale straw, light yellow, no head. Some sweet and some funky tart pear, soft cooked pear, elderflower. Moderate sweet, tart and mild bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. I like what you are doing with our Dutch apples and pears. Keep the wild fermentation kicking! The cool and somewhat meally pears work really well with the elderflower. Or should I just admit I love elderflower. Some of the funkiness results in somewhat plasticcy notes but they are easily forgiven with the other stuff going on. Very juicy, yet thin and dry. The Mamouche of Dutch perry’s.

330ml bottle from Sterk, Amsterdam. Hazy yellow colour, fizzy white foam head that dissipates away and aroma of funky pear, horseblanket, elderflower. Taste is juicy pear with leathery rubbery barnyard funk, and some tart elderflower citric notes. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, semi-dry tart pear finish. Quite drinkable.

Bottle at Vrijplaats Leiden. Slight hazy light golden with no head. Surprisingly quite some apple up front, quite juicy but also some dusty apple peel. Then there’s the pears coming in, very dry, it’s more dried pear than juice. Quite some dank cellar notes and brut champagne. Soft dust and sulfite. Very light sweet with a slight metallic dusty finish. Light bodied, very dry and almost no carbonation. I don’t really get the low ratings, it’s an OK though not great brut Perry.

Bottle from Barrique. Slightly hazy light yellow coloured. Nose is pear, slight sweetness, fairly sour, a bit artificial. Flavour has pear, some sourness, bit of apple. Again a bit artificial. Good thing this is not overly sweet, as most perrys are. All in all a good attempt, would love to see more of these in NL.

Bottle. A hazy one, pale yellow-golden in color and with a minimal-sized white head. The aroma is fruity, with both apple cores and pears. Medium body, semi-dry with a nice carbonation. Pears and apple cores. Some bitter notes. Not very interesting this one, slightly yeasty too. 141024
