Our sadness at being unable to visit New Zealand earlier this year transformed into excitement as we conducted our NZ hop selections at the brewery instead, choosing from several lots of air freighted samples. We hope you enjoy this series, that starts off with this bold and fragrant TIPA. Be well, friends.

COD 071020. Hazy pale yellow, fluffy white foam. Smells fruity juicy, tropical. Taste is sweet, very fruity, with just the tiniest orange peely bitter at the end. Some dank grapes, loads of peach, hint of grapefruit and a dash of pine. Highly drinkable.

Can. Cloudy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Light smooth malts, a light creamy sweetness. Hops bring nibbly hop spice that runs throughout smooth soft mellow orangey citrus, whisper of floral mandarin. Mild lime peel gives away the NZ hops. Searching for but not finding Nelson grape, but that isn't a surprise, even if was in this brew and Cloudwater didn't think to tell us despite making a point of telling us how the hops were chosen. Bit like going to a restaurant and being told that you don't need to know what the bottles are, just that they come from Spain or France. Respect Ze Hops! Smooth spicy finish. A curious affair. It's properly hoppy but not particularly punchy with modern bold hop flavours. But I've near done the can whilst contemplating this one. Always a good sign.

440ml can. Sweetish, massively hoppy and creamy with loads of tropical fruits, citrus, grapefruit, pine and warming alcohol. Quite hoppy and intense.

440ml can shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a hazy golden straw colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head and a little broken lace. The aroma is grainy malt, stone fruits, mineral, earthy, zesty tropical citrus fruits. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, light sweet, with a fresh, crisp, malt, juicy citrus, dry floral hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.
