LIFE - this living ale is naturally carbonated to enhance complexity, refinement, and to encourage aging. LIMB - for the birch and maple trees, who’s syrup gives this unique ale its flavor and symbolizes the collaboration between Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head. We are proud to share our Life and Limb with it’s thousands of other branches who collectively comprise the craft brewing family tree. Sip slowly with friends and loved ones; savor long - because one could do better than be a swigger of birches.

Bottle courtesy of nimbleprop at first DC tasting of 2010. Dark brown with a medium beige head and moderate lacing. Aroma of milk chocolate. Flavor has toffee, chocolate and licorice, with obvious alcohol. Decent body. Average and inoffensive.

Bottle aged for 5 yrs: Poured a mahogany with no head. Aroma is very complex with sap, roastiness, and maple. Taste is very full and sweet candy to the tongue yet nice roasted malt.

Location: 24 oz bottle from jcos's trip to Rozi's Wine and Liquor House, 12/5/09

Aroma: The nose has a ton of maple, with some alcohol, caramel, spice, brown sugar, chocolate, wood
Appearance: Dark brown color with a slight red hue and a thick tan head and some spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is similar in characteristics to the nose, maple malty sweetness with slight hop backing
Palate: Mouthfeel is a bit sticky, but decent, some soft carbonation, and a decent finish
Overall Impression: I was excited for the release of this one, as I like both Dogfish and SN, and I was interested to see what a combo offering from these two breweries would be like. I like the idea here almost more then the beer, but the beer is pretty good too. Perhaps a bit strong on the maple, but once it got to a good temperature, I thought it worked pretty well. Perhaps a bit too sweet for me, but a pretty solid brew.
