Rye has been a staple grain for millennia—sought after for its stubborn resilience in the field and revered for its unique flavor. Ruthless Rye IPA is brewed with rustic grains for refined flavors, combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to spring.

12oz bottle pours a totally clear, copper amber with a very frothy, sudsy white head. Nose is very earthy, pine cones, wet leaves, stank hops, resin. The smell reminded me of a hop plug used for homebrewing. Flavor is sweet, herbal, hoppy, lemons, pine, light grapefruit, some caramel sweetness, bread, rye, crackers. Medium bodied, dry, bitter finish. Easy drinker.

Clear amber with a large white head. Aroma was citrus hops, light malts, and nice spicy rye. Medium body. Starts out with nice citrus hops and sweet malts and then passes on to a medium spicy bite from the rye. The hop bitterness melts seamlessly into the rye spice and it can be hard to figure out where one ends and the other begins. A very well done rye IPA.

Bottle. Dark red with lasting foamy white head. Aroma is citrus, pine and rye. Big rye taste, like rusks or rye bread. Citrusy hoppy finish.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear copper with a foamy near-white head. Cat pee, but mild, aroma over rye. Med body. This is superb. Lots of hop and that rye flavor. I’ll go with the description: peppery spice and citrus. Amazing.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a clear amber orange with a gray head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of rye, grain and bread notes with a bit of backing pine. Flavor has a bit more of a pine hop presence but mainly has notes of bread, grains and rye.

Lightly hazy copper - soapy, lasting head - nose of toasty grain and moderately spicy rye, some floral notes - medium bodied, relatively soft carbonation - the approach is mostly lightly bready, medium clean maltiness, but the strong spiciness of rye and peppery, woody hops swell up gradually, leading to a strongly spicy, somewhat dry finish - like Celebration’s lighter, drier, leaner cousin - good brew.

12 ounce bottle from Harris Teeter Barracks Charlottesville. Pours a clear copper color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of big rye notes, herbal and peppery hops. The taste is rye, toasted malts, citrus hops. Medium bodied, decent balance, average carbonation. Decent.
