Can ordered from Brew Cavern, Nottingham. Aroma of booze with dried dark fruit and molasses. Dark and glossy. Beige head sticks to the rim. Sweet rich malty dark fruits with a boozy bitter streak. Cacao. Medium-heavy bodied. Oily. Flat-average carbonation. Long astringent finish. No complaints. Full-on boozy wine.

I'm going to assume they drove this shipment up to Vancouver, cause B.A. Baracus ain't getting on no airplane. Dark brown appearance with no head. Looks like imperial stout, not barley wine. Not going to hold that against it, though. There's a lot of vanilla and bourbon here. The base is very sweet, the vanilla comes through. It's true, there's no stouty roasty stuff. The bourbon is dominating, mind you, so there's not much in that base beer. It's kind of like neutral, clean barley wine, which is a strange approach you'd only use if you expected most of it to be barreled up anyway. It's a good beer, but could do for more nuance.

16 oz. can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of whiskey and bourbon barrels, vanilla, and subdued cocoa. Flavour is very barrel-forward, with lots of bourbon barrels, vanilla, molasses, and booze; there's even some cola character in back. Boozy, bourbony, lots of vanilla on the finish. It's good, but not a top-tier barley wine.

16 oz can. Pours a dark brown with no head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, toffee, graham cracker, dark fruit and biscuity malts. Flavors follow same with emphasis on sugar and bourbon. Metallic finish. Tall can is way too big for a 14% beer. That's just silly.

Poured from 473mL can. Dark brown with virtually no head. Woody bourbon forward with hints of chocolate and dark fruit. Decent, but bourbon overpowers.

Can - pours dark ruby, viscous - nicely executed traditional rendition here - loads of treacle, toffee, dark fruit, in the nose and flavor - light oxidation adds notes of sherry - mild oak - the whiskey is present, but subdued, and the alcohol is exceptionally masked, making for a smooth, albeit dangerously drinkable beer - quite nice.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark brown colour, very small head. Aroma of bourbon, almost fruity. Full bodied, sweet, quite good malt, not very deep though, with strong, mellow Bourbon character. Quite good.
