Cask at CBC, Covent Garden on 3rd May 2025. Slightly hazy amber with shallow foam and spot lacing. Pungent aroma. Impressive maltiness in-mouth with zesty peel and spices. A finish of citrus peel hoppiness and rounding malts. Medium bodied with a velvet smooth mouthfeel.

5/10/2019. Bottle from Inn At Home, Newbury, shared at the Wroclaw GP bottle share. Poured clear bright gold with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, butter, biscuit, hops, flowers and toffee. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Moderate body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Butter toffee finish. Fair.

Handpull cask at the Red Lion, Histon. Tawny brown and clear, hardly any head but there is considerable lacing on the glass. Woody, grassy, astringent smell with sulphurous notes and earthy hop. I don’t often like these beers but it smells very fresh. The sulphur is quite pronounced in the taste and subverts my attention from the pleasant bitterness at the back of the tongue. Long, bitter finish with notes of Angustora bitters and turpentine afterward. Thin body. Imperfect but perfectly drinkable.

Cask at Butler, Reading. 19/05/17. Sweet but slightly sickly malty caramel aroma. Light chestnut. Really creamy white head. Malty sweetness. A hint of bitterness. But I can’t get over the sweet element, like the aroma it’s offputting. Light-medium bodied. Watery. Soft carbonation. Long finish.

Cask at GBBF 2015. Pale copper, clear, frothy head. Bready, rich malt, light caramel and chocolate, noble-like hops, grass, orange. Sharp citrus hop flavor, plus hay, bit of pine, earth, peppery spice. Light, crisp. Bit metallic. Decent.

Cask at the Claue Du Vall, Camberley, 16/11/13. Clear golden with a moderate white cap that retains well, decent full glass lacing ensues. Nose is bready malts, light toffee, fruits, pinch of spice. Taste comprises light sugars, toffee, touch of fruit loaf, biscuit crumble, mellow bramble fruit notes. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, light bitterness in the finish. Great sessionable bitter, I could have sat on this one for a few hours. This really showcases the time you catch a cask beer in optimal condition and how you could have the same beer in the pub next door at 2.8 , then hit an optimal one at 3.4/3.5. Great bitter.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin white bubbly head. The aroma is big and malty. The flavour is medium bitter, malty and rather hoppy on the palate. It’s a typical English bitter with a hoppy, slightly spicy bitter edge. Very drinkable.
