A rich and robust stout. The addition of black treacle gives intense depth and roasted malts impart a coffee flavour. Generous amounts of hops add a dry citrus finish to this complex black ale.

Backlog rating from RBESG 2008, grand tasting: Dark chestnut, creamy head. Chocolate aroma. Burned chocolate flavor, not that much caramel. Medium body. Light smoky finish.

Bottle, source not recorded. Poured dark brown with a mid-sized creamy pale beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, molasses, hop, chocolate. Fairly heavy sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Medium body, slick/oily texture, soft carbonation.

Pours a completely black color, topped with a very good-looking brown colored head with nice retention. Mild roasty aroma, some pleasant chocolate notes and a hint of coffee. Taste is mild, slightly sweet with chocolate with some minimal bitterness in the finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth and easily drinkable. Gentle but tasty.

Very dark brown ruby, thin tan head, good lacing
Aroma of soft roast, getting a touch of treacle, aroma a bit muted
Taste of soft roast, dark sweet malts, touch of treacle, getting some bitter hops, dab of liquorice, some sticky molasses
Palate - Medium body, bit sticky, light sweet. Finish has some more treacle
Overall - Quite a decent stout

500ml bottle from t’Asda - Jet black body, beige to tan head which soon goes. Nose is molasses, coffee, espresso, burnt malts. Taste is bitter at first, strong black coffee, harsh liquorice. A full mouthful, would only wish for a bit more oiliness in the palate.

Cask @ Railway, Hebden Bridge. Black with a thick frothy head. Not full-bodied as it feels slightly thin in the palate but has enough roasted malts to please.
