Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 19B, adapted). Bottle 50 cl - Batch unknown. AROMA: aroma of sweet coffee (cappuccino, coffee and milk), black liquorice, dark chocolate, slight roasted cereals and faint walnuts. soft alcohol aroma on the background. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color and opaque. brown average head with average retention. alcohol derived viscosity with some lacing. TASTE: initial prominent coffee and dark chocolate with a supportive moderately sweet background. notes of black liquorice and a faint walnut note. apparent low hop derived bitterness although the finish is bitter from the roasted malts. finishes semi-dry with a long coffee-like and nutty aftertaste. PALATE: velvety texture with a medium-full body. smooth alcohol warming. OVERALL: an outstanding and complex dark ale that should be enjoyed at a very slow pace. highly recommended.
